Rosewall Community Centre run several hand-pottery classes, however learner demand is strong for wheel-pottery classes, where participants can throw wares (e.g. crockery, sculptures, jewellery) to a standard high enough that they’re able to be sold in a small business capacity
This is particularly understandable given Rosewall is located in Corio, where most individuals experience several systemic barriers to financial wellbeing. However, they currently only have four pottery wheels, meaning class sizes are small with lengthy waitlists and delays in accessing the wheels during ‘Open Studio’ time which runs twice weekly.
There is no other not-for-profit access to wheel throwing in Geelong – local private studios charge between 2x and 4x the cost of Rosewall’s classes.
By increasing the number of wheels we will be able to reduce the price of classes even further to the community.
Benefit Geelong is proud to fund Rosewall Community Centre enough money to purchase two Pottery Wheels and chairs.
